Williams Creek in Colorado

We had a lovely resting time at Williams Creek, a magical gem hidden just uphill the small town of Pagosa Springs in Colorado. We drove out there on a dirt road absorbed by the beauty and expanse of thousands of acres of green rolling hills.  Few herds of cows were lucky to enjoy this lush green grass. Along the horizon lay the grand mountain peaks of the San Juan National Forest.  We then entered a small little road which led us into the denser part of the forest which was situated along a small creek.  Of course being the only campers there, we selected the nicest place to set us camp.  The children were captivated by the murmuring, babbling little creek and played amongst the water and rocks most of the time we were there.

I enjoyed a wonderful trail ride with a small group of people up to the top of the mountain where they have ice-caves and an incredible panorama.  The children went hiking with their papa and were lucky enough to see many deers, blueberries and of course squirrels .

The children had a desire to fish, so we visited the beautiful Lake that lay hidden amidst the gigantic mountains.

We are fortunate to be able to stay in the forests without needing hookups for electricity or sewer.  Trying to stay in harmony with mother earth, we had a compost toilet installed and have solar panels on the roof of our airstream.  Conserving water has been the challenge for us even though we do use it sparingly (drip drops to clean).

  2. That is so close to where we were the other day! Up the same road but then our friends live just past where the road first turns to dirt.
    See you tomorrow!

  5. Don't you just LOVE CO??!!!! I think you misunderstood my blogging posts! We currently live in the coldest state ever. . . .MN! But we are slowly making our way to CO to buy a piece of land and go off grid! We plan this move in Jan, right after the homebirht of our 3rd child! Yikes we are busy, but the state as you know is beautiful and it will feel great to get out there!

  9. Hi-
Did you have any problems entering National Parks with a composting toilet. Do have an electric power toilet or collecting system?

  10. No Samantha it's actually more earth friendly. It's turns out deep and rich just like normal compost and is actually allowed to be buried in National Parks.

  11. Amazing! I never thought about installing a composting toilet into an Airstream! Smart!! We will be traveling with a Westfalia. It sure will be small for all of us, but we have it and it will be more economical and ecological than a RV (we cannot afford an Airstream right now). One of my big concerns since I eat mostly raw is what to do with compost when we travel. What do you do? What about recycling?
