This past week I began working on a small felt art picture. I had made a pony felt picture for the children for Christmas and they marveled at it so decided to try another. I love the way a simple picture can reveal itself in a soft and beautiful way, simply by adding and shaping a few layers of colored wool. I also used a bit of Merino/Silk blend which added a shimmering touch of softness to the picture.
Because the children loved it so, I decided to offer it as a small giveaway from our family to another along with the sweet book "The Little Fairies Christmas" by Daniela Drescher to be tucked away until next Christmas (only the book of course).
For a chance to win please leave a message in the comments section and a winner will be selected Sunday 23rd around 8pm. (Fabien has taken the package to Miami so will be shipped from there).

Sasha created his own little "Summer" picture - It's always summer in the Tropics!

It turned out beautiful, I helped Sasha with the girl and the horse. A precious gift for a very special person whose birthday will be at the end of this month.

This is Sania's delightful creation. The blue behind the tree was supposed to be for the sky, he grew his tree amongst the clouds and a tree was formed alongside the creek. He completed this early one morning whilst I was sleeping.
all three of your works of art are absolutely gorgeous! wool, and wool pictures are so nurturing and full with peace. yours are stunning and your spirits shine through! it would be an honor and a joy to receive this work of your hands from across the many miles! xoxo

ReplyDeleteIt would be such a precious gift for the next Christmas - of course, if I would be able to keep it hidden for THAT long :)))))
Dearest Jeanene, Please do not enter me (as we already have the wonderful gift of your friendship) but I must still comment to say how so very beautiful all of these pictures are! Sasha and Sania's work is sweet and impressive! Chloe has done that before, quietly needle felting first thing early in the morning. You have all inspired me with your beautiful creating!
ReplyDeleteLove to all, XOXO
So beautiful! I'm impressed with all of these works of art. Sania's is especially inspiring to me.
ReplyDeleteMy family would be honored to receive your art in our home. Thanks -
Certainly, the wool allows the artistic expression an otherworldly character that paint could never approach. Seeing the boys working on their pieces is a pleasure - they seem so absorbed, and their work turned out very well. Very well indeed. Your life seems like a dream to me, and these pictures prove me right. Do not enter me, dear one, because the only giveaway I've been lucky enough to win was from you, already. And I am content - still, the gift you offer is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. I just ordered my first set of felting needles and roving to give this a try. After seeing what you and your boys can do I am excited. Thank you for the giveaway :)
ReplyDeleteEmily

I love the shimmering effect of the merino/silk blend. It looks like you've all enjoyed creating, the scenes are just magical!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the opportunity, have a lovely weekend.
xx
Count me in. Those are beautiful! However, the most impressive thing about these pics is the fact that your son is sitting there making his with stains on his shirt and dirt on his skin. My kids are always dirty and they usually are wearing clothes that are stained. This is because they are outside a lot and actually LIVE. My husband sometimes gets tired of the stained shirts, etc. and it sometimes makes me think that I need to get more money somewhere for new clothes. It's super nice to see some kids that are living life as opposed to sitting in front of a screen turning into marshmallows.
ReplyDeleteHeather my boys haven't many clothes that aren't stained or with holes, they are real outdoor, barefooted farm boys with many cuts, bites and scrapes from being out and about. I don't even notice the dirt anymore...believe it or not my clothes are almost as dirty as theirs, especially at the end of the day! At times I do wish for more indoor time but it's so exciting out there that i can't keep them in.. except for siester quiet time during the midday heat and early evenings before bed.
ReplyDeleteI don't talk English very well ... that's why I never comment your articles, nevermind such enriching. Can you only understand that I write ?
ReplyDeleteIt's amongst my resolutions this year trying to do such beautiful things, so as an example, I want trying to be the "winner" !
Oh my heavens, how beautiful!!! And how generous. <3
ReplyDeleteI have only just discovered your beautiful and very inspiring blog, thank you for sharing your beautiful fanily life together :)
ReplyDeleteYou inspire me to have a go at so many new crafts, thank you again, lovely mama.
Blessings Sue x
So pretty! What a great medium for kids...
ReplyDeleteDear Jeanene,
ReplyDeleteEach scene is incredibly beautiful and so very meaningful. The close relationship between animals, nature and people. Such mighty, majestic trees. And such exquisite choice of colour. You all have nature and beauty in your souls flowing out through your fingertips. I have often hoped to get around to making pictures like this and have been meaning to work on a St Francis scene with Sol, a saint we are both looking forward to spending time learning about. You have inspired me to get on with it!
The special person having a birthday soon will be very touched!
Much love, dear friend.
Thank you all sweet friends for all the beautiful compliments - your words are very dear to me.
ReplyDeleteI am utterly impressed! Needle-felting is a tricky art, from my experience, yet all 3 of you have soared with it. Gorgeous. Full of warmth and texture. Pony Princess - we have a few of those at our farm here!
ReplyDeleteBlessings and light...
All of your pictures are truly amazing! I love the airy feel of them. And how sweet of you to share your art with one of us. thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Elizabeth
Oh Jeanene, I love seeing your children's work! I think children have a style in their creations that no adult can ever really capture - sort of bold and uninhibited. The main character in one of my books, Violet, does lots of drawing and rather than try to imitate a child's style and risk it looking inauthentic, the illustrator had her own daughters do those parts. I was so delighted when I learned about that! At the book launch, Sarah's daughters signed books along with us because their contribution was so wonderful. Sasha and Sania's needle felting is just wonderful too and their work will bring a lot of happiness to the family who wins.
ReplyDeletethese are unbelievably beautiful! i love seeing what young children are capable of when given the chance. we would LOVE to win this book and picture!
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on my blog so I could find yours! What a lovely life you lead! Your felted pictures are amazing. I've tried a couple, but none have been as beautiful as yours. I'll definitely keep trying. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
ReplyDeleteBrilliantly beautiful work! I think I'm much too far for the giveaway but I didn't want to not comment on your art work.
ReplyDeleteThe boys' creations in felt are SOOOO gorgeous! I am especially in love with Sania's tree and turquoise water.
ReplyDeleteAnnie thanks for your kind reply, I will be shipping to all countries so of course you have a chance.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful Nini, just beautiful.....
ReplyDeleteThey are stunning! You children are so talented. I would have been blown away, to wake up to that. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSimply marvelous!
ReplyDeletebeautiful! would love to win =D
ReplyDeleteHow delightful. We have nothing felt at this time to display, and how lovely would it look in our home. Felt seems to soften things around it. I have some plain roving, but have yet to learn to make such creations. Once I did try to make a ball, but somehow it turned into a long snake, which works too. I enjoy reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteWalk well,
Nichole
Hi! I found your blog through "Plain and joyful living" and am so happy to be here! I see that you have many Old Mother Westwind and Thornton Burgess books in your recommendations. I grew up in the town next to Old Mother Westwind and Thornton Burgess and had the opportunity many, many years ago to work at Laughing Brook Audubon Sanctuary in Hampden, MA where I walked Old Mother Westwind’s gardens and gave tours to eager children in Thornton Burgess’ home. It was a lovely and simple home with a large hearth, outside root cellar and the fireplace held a beautiful shell that Mrs. Burgess would use to call Thornton home for meals. I am reminded to get these stories on the shelf for my little ones! I wish you and your family well this year and will check back in to see what beautiful things you are all creating! Amy

Dear Jeanene
ReplyDeleteI have just downloaded 200 emails. I thankfully got all my computer and phone problems sorted out today. I was in a que of 1500 households with telephone lines down over December and Jan. We have had so much rain leaving many homeless and loss of lives. What a sad start to our South African year. Anyway it is good to be back in blogland. I look forward to reading your posts soon.
Love to your gorgeous happy boys Jeanene. I hope you are all well...A lovely giveaway. Such talent. You have captured the breeze which I think is very clever and original.
Lots of love
Suzanne

I am so inspired! I've been thinking about trying needle felting for some time now, but was too timid. These are so beautiful, I just have to give it a whirl. My little ones would love this as they just got back from time on their grandparents' farm visiting all the animals. Perfect for the playroom!
ReplyDeleteYour felt pictures are so sweet! I love how delicate and magical they are. What a nice giveaway.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw the Pony Princess, I let out an audible sigh . . . there is something so familiar about the two figures . . . I think it has something to do with my longing to have such an intimate relationship with my own precious pony (on some level we already do). However, seeing it reflected in this piece of art is quite magical. Thank you for your generous sharing, both on your blog and in the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteOh I love to see kids needle felt! It's such a great form of expression. He did an awesome job too. I just started my seven year old daughter doing some needle and wet felting. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my, these are so beautiful! I love the soft dreamy effects that the wool invoke. So very creative. I also enjoy making similar (though not nearly as sophisticated) pictures. A little birthday token for my children's birthdays. So beautiful.
ReplyDeletexo Jules
You are an amazing Mama!!
ReplyDeleteMuch Love!
Wow. Simply gorgeous. The beauty of watercolor, but with texture.
ReplyDeleteAlso, as I comment I see a picture of trailing riding in water with ponies- if I could transport myself to a picture today, that would be it!
How beautiful. My daughter and I felt but we have never tried a picture like this. We have been knitting lately but maybe it is time to start felting again.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Tracy
Beautiful pictures, I love seeing Sasha so focused on felting. What a sweet boy.
